Many musicians play without knowing anything about how their instrument works. Would you know what to do if a note stopped working just before your exam? Or what to look for when choosing an instrument? As with your car, the more you know about it the better you can look after it. Professional repairer Alan Burnfield shows players the basics on how to choose the best instrument for your needs, keep it in good condition, and know when to seek expert help. The presentation will be followed by an interactive workshop practising simple maintenance techniques you can do at home without expensive specialised tools, using sample instruments. This Albany Wind Festival community development workshop will focus on flute, clarinet and saxophone but is beneficial for any woodwind instrument. Observers also welcome.
